Everything You Need to Know About Faces

Face Gallery

Introduction

One of the coolest things about Whyville is the diversity and individuality of its citizens. The reason for this is that, in Whyville, you have complete control over your own appearance. Not only can you select what face parts and fashion accessories that you want, but you also have the opportunity to design your own arts.

Whether you dress like a prep or a punk in real life, Whyville is a place where you can break free of pressure to fit in. This is your chance to have fun with your look and challenge people's prejudices. Just as like the old saying "Clothes don't make the man," face parts don't make the Whyvillian either! Be wild or conservative. Change your look often or never. Be glamorous or freaky. Be free!

Putting on Your Face

Once you've got all these face parts, how do you put them on your face? Just go to Pick Your Nose. You'll see a list of all your face parts on the right side of the screen. Drag the head you've chosen into the big space in the middle of your screen. Next, drag the other parts piece by piece and place them where you like. Be sure to click on "Done" when you've finished so you don't lose that gorgeous face you just created.

Getting Down to Business

If you're the creative type, you may want to start designing your own face parts. This is a great way to express your individuality and earn clams by selling your creations. Faces parts are designed, where else, at the Face Factory (look for it under the Destinations Menu on the bus.) You'll find a menu at the Face Factory offering the different sizes for parts. Smaller parts are less expensive to design and big parts, obviously, cost more. Use the small blocks for things like jewelry, eyes, noses and other small items. The big blocks work well for heads, large hats and things like that.

Once you've chosen the size, you can move on to the actual creation. You'll see an artist's palette with color options and drawing tools. Go wild (just stay inside the lines!) You can preview the part against your own face by clicking on Preview. When you’ve finally completed your work, click Done to save it. Next, you'll be able to preview a small, medium and large version of your creation. It's important that you're happy with the way it looks in all three sizes. Click done again to move on to Akbar's form. This is where you name your part, set a price for it and decide how many you want to try to sell.

Once Akbar receives your form and approves your part you may start seeing it around town! And once you have a face part, you'll be able to start and manage your own stores right there from Akbar's factory.

Going Shopping for Parts

When you first arrive in Whyville, you'll have what is called the Newbie Face. The Newbie Face is pleasant enough but it's not very interesting. So maybe you'll want to cruise over to Akbar's and check out the face options available to you. Of course, as a Newbie, you're not going to be able to afford anything at Akbar's or anyplace else for that matter. So the best you can do is head on down to Grandma's and see if there are any donated parts you can pick up for free. You can't be choosey at Grandma's. She'll offer you what she can spare and you'll be thankful for it! As you play more games and participate in all that Whyville has to offer, you'll earn clams that you can spend on face parts.

Once you have a few clams socked away and you're ready to shop at Akbar's Face Mall, you'll be amazed at the options you have face shapes, eyes, ears, noses, mouths, hair, clothing, hats, jewelry, pets, even signs! Look at other citizens you admire and see how they've arranged their faces. You can even ask people the names of face parts you admire. (Don't take it personally though if they don't want to tell you. Some people guard their face secrets ferociously!)

Word of Caution

A quick word of caution: Don't even try to design clothing that is too revealing (tummies are a no-no, as is cleavage!) and don't steal logos from real designers or companies. Akbar has to approve all parts so why waste your clams and your time designing something that will be rejected?
